THOMAS THE TRAIN CAKE

I was asked to make a Thomas train cake for a very special boys 2nd birthday. Having a son who is a huge Thomas fan, I was all to familiar on how I wanted the cake to look. I purchased a Thomas train whistle that I used to put into the top tier cake as if it were coming out of a tunnel. The boulders were made out of grey fondant. Fondant hills and grass completed the look.
Cake was vanilla chip cake with nutella buttercream filling.

Tiffany Theme Dessert Table

This past weekend, we threw a surprise party for my mother's 50th birthday. We decided to go with a tiffany theme cake and dessert table and base the table decor on the tiffany blue color. We used a matching tiffany blue table cloth and based the table around the center Tiffany box cake. Behind the cake we used a tiffany bag as a holder for some branches that we hung tiffany blue stones from. Two cupcake liner topiary trees we made were placed on both ends of the table with a sign on each that read "50 & Fabulous...Happy Birthday."
We made a personalized happy birthday banner to match the colors and hung it from the front of the table. We added blue candy such as sixlets, vanilla tootsie rolls, rock candy and gum balls around the table in different jars as well as some vanilla meringue cookies and sugar cookies.
We then scattered the favors around the table. The favors were tiffany blue boxes with hershey kisses inside and decorated with white ribbon and a personalized label. The boxes were purchaed at http://www.beforetheidos.com/Tiffany_Blue_Favor_Box_Set_of_10_p/ee-tblbox.htm
The table was a big hit at the party and my mom loved it! :)

SPRINKLED THEMED BABY SHOWER

We were asked to do a cake and dessert table for my partners close friend who was having her second baby very soon. This sprinkle shower was new to me but I loved the idea of basing the decorations on the key dessert decoration....SPRINKLES!!!

The table started with a candy stripe tablecloth and we worked all the desserts around those colors. The cake featured matching circles and butterflies. We hung colored cardstock circles from wire ribbon on white birch branches placed in a vase filled with sprinkles. We then centered all the other desserts around it. We added pink marshmallows, sprinkled donuts, marshmallow pops, pretzels sticks, cookies and cupcakes all decorated with what else but SPRINKLES!

"Sprinkled With Love"

White boxes were sprayed with glue and then dipped in sprinkles. Fake flowers were added to create a beautiful sprinkle flower centerpiece.
Cake was a 6" and 8" two tiered cake. Top tier was red velvet with cream cheese frosting and bottom was vanilla with oreo cookies buttercream,
Cake push up pops are the new craze!! I placed 3 mini cupcakes topped with buttercream and sprinkles placed in plastic push up pop containers. LOVE THESE!!

Jungle Themed Baby Shower Cupcake Favors

I was asked to make cupcake favors for a young lady's baby shower. They were sick of the tired and old knick knack given as favors in the past that most of the time get trashed or collect dust on a shelf somewhere. What better favor to give then something delicious to eat and sweet to look at! The theme was Jungle Safari so I set out to look for pictures of jungle animal shaped cupcakes. Many of the pictures I found were done with fondant covered cupcakes shaped into animal faces. As cute as they were my only hesitancy was about the taste. As someone who LOVES cupcakes I worried about how the cupcake would taste without the best part....FROSTING! So I decided to dip the tops in chocolate ganache and frost with homemade buttercream. I then created the animal faces with fondant on circle discs. This way you can remove the disc before eating as many people don't like the taste of fondant and still have a delicious frosted cupcake to enjoy! They were a big hit and came out just as cute as all the others I saw online.

ALICE IN WONDERLAND CAKE

Here are some pictures of the Alice in Wonderland themed first birthday cake I was asked to make for a special little girl. The mom wanted the topsy turvy look which goes with the whole feel of the wonderland theme. I searched online looking for pictures of cakes and found Pink Cake Box's version to be my favorite.
http://blog.pinkcakebox.com/alice-in-wonderland-topsy-turvy-cake-2010-02-24.htm

I think I did a pretty good job of duplicating it. I made the tea cup and saucer out of rice crispy treats t help me keep the shape. Everything else was done in fondant.

What little boy wouldnt want the coolest Superhero party! This party we were asked to do was not only alot of fun to prepare, but looked amazing when completed. The smile on the birthday boys face once he saw it was priceless!! Thanks to many different ideas we found on the internet, we were able to create an eye popping table that became the talk of the party.

I made the pennant by searching comic book covers on the internet. Printing them out on 8.5x11 paper and cutting them into triangle shapes. Once I had enough I used double sided tape to adhere them onto red satin ribbon.
Candy was easy to find around the 4th of July that went well with the theme colors. The gumball jars looked the best stacked by color.
We accented the table with Spiderman Pez dispensers and gumball machines. They looked really good edging the table. So simple and yet had a great effect.
I used styrofoam cake circles for cupcake stands. With Illustrator I was able to replicate the labels and a building scene that I attached to the sides of the styrofoam with pins.
Marshmallow pops with colored sprinkles.
Cake consisted of a 10" and 8" with three layers in each. Chocolate and vanilla cake with oreo cookies filling on the top layer and nutella filling in the bottom layer...YUM!!
A black cardboard building scene was used as our backdrop to complete the look!

Barbie Doll Cake

I was asked to make a doll cake this week for a little girl turning 3. Mom told me she was a big Snow White fan so she wanted the doll to resemble Snow White. This was my first attempt at making one of these doll cakes and I was anxious to make it look as good as possible. There are many pictures online of these types of cakes and many of them tend to look a bit unbalanced and oddly shaped. I ended up purchasing the Wilton WonderMold pan to make this cake as I felt it reflected the skirt shape the best. I added another 8" layer at the bottom, so all together, after torting the skirt, there were 3 filling layers and 4 layers of cake. I then carved it a bit more to get a slimmer and more flattering shape. I also added buttercream lines over the crumb coat to allow for the look of pleats on the skirt. I used a real Barbie doll in the center, instead of one of those half doll picks so the birthday girl could have a doll to keep afterwards. I placed the whole thing on a green fondant covered cake board and added a gumpaste scroll and flowers to complete the look.

Very happy with the end results! Happy Birthday Victoria!

Graduation Dessert and Cake Table

We were asked to create a dessert table for a friends daughter's high school graduation party. The party colors were lime green and black and white zebra print. This table was alot of fun to do since the colors were fantastic and really made a statement when all put together.

We used granny smith apples and zebra print topiary trees for decoration. I made beautiful zebra print silk table runners to add emphasis to the look! The three tiered cake was the focal point and rested on a silver gem trimmed cake plate.
marshmallow pops, chocolate covered pretzel sticks, cake pops, chocolate donuts, apple twizzlersvanilla meringue cookies, chocolate covered pretzels, apple jelly rings, coconut M&M's

vanilla and chocolate cupcakes with vanilla buttercream were placed on glass pedestal tiers on either side of the table.

oreo cookies were decorated with zebra print sugar sheets that I punched out with a circle cutter and adhered to the top of the oreo with buttercream

The cake was a three tiered Devil's food cake with oreo cookies and cream buttercream filling. I created a graduation cap and diploma out of sugar past and the bow in front is made with black fondant. I used fondant balls around the tiers and finished off the look with the guest of honor's initial on front! This table is my favorite one so far we have done. Special thanks to my partner Nicole for all her hard work!!! (guess I should thank our husbands too who had to help us carry everything into the restaurant! We put them to good use! )

ANNIVERSARY CAKE

My last customer wanted to have a special cake to celebrate the anniversary of her parents. She was'nt having a big party but wanted a small cake to serve for about 15 people. I baked her a vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream filling and on top adhered an edible frosting sheet of her parents wedding picture. I trimmed the top with buttercream and silver dragees. Black satin ribbon and jeweled trimmed bow finished the look. A simple and easy way to make a small cake "special"!!

SuperMario Cupcake Tower

SuperMario Brothers Cupcake Tower

This past weekend was my nephew Nicholas' 5th birthday and I had to make a cupcake tower for him of course! He is into SuperMario and plays the Wii game constantly. I had fun making the mushroom character cupcakes and made my own cupcake pics using Illustrator.

Star Wars Cake

A friend I went to highschool with contacted me to make a cake for her husband who is a huge Star Wars fan. I googled different pictures as the internet has alot of pictures on this category. I didnt want the cake to look to childish either, so we settled on one that was featured as a Lego Star Wars themed cake. I purchased the Galactic Hero characters to put on top and around the cake instead of making them out of gumpaste. I eliminated some stars which gave it a more clean look. Very happy with the end results!
